Abstract

Our present knowledge of the functional processes within the Kalahari ecosystem is insufficient to provide a total understanding of the system. In this paper the uniqueness of the Kalahari ecosystem is discussed, with special emphasis on its faunal and floristic components as well as the remarkable micro-ecosystems which are encountered.
