The reactions of the more prominent ungulates in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park with regard to their utilization of burned veld were traced. The indications are that a burning programme, as advocated by the agricultural authorities for sourveld regions could be of great benefit to effective veld management in a national park where some of the more familiar practices should not be implemented.
